Matt Agnew has appeared cool, calm and collected since his debut on The Bachelor.

But the 32-year-old data scientist has struggled behind the scenes, with Woman's Day reporting that he was plagued by self-doubt and trust issues.

According to an on-set source, he was 'constantly questioning himself throughout filming' due to the contestants' wild and unpredictable behaviour.

'Matt became really affected by all the drama in the house,' said the insider.

He once even 'asked for the cameras to be turned off' during a private chat with one woman because he was paranoid about upsetting the others.

'[Matt] hated getting close to the women knowing it would be a target on their backs,' the source added.

Matt confirmed Woman's Day's story in an interview with TV Week magazine, which was also published on Monday.

He admitted that filming The Bachelor 'messed with [his] head' and he found himself wondering if he'd made a big mistake by signing up.

'I had a real hard time,' he confessed. 'Leaving probably crept into my mind a bit, because it was a case of not knowing who I could trust.'

Matt added that the turning point was the cocktail party when he kissed Abbie Chatfield, sparking a wave of gossip and back-stabbing in the mansion.

'Until then, I'd been really optimistic about my experience, but then I had this moment that complete derailed me,' he said.

Matt acknowledged that the stress took its toll, and he had to seek the assistance of the show's on-set physiologists.
