Lily Aldridge strips down to a bikini as she makes her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition debut

As one of Victoria's Secret's angels we are used to seeing her in her smalls.

And now Lily Aldridge is making her Sports Illustrated debut.

The model shared a snap of herself in a yellow bikini on Tuesday, writing: 'So excited to announce that I will be in the 2014 @si_swimsuit issue!!!'

Sports Illustrated followed up her tweet by writing: 'Lily Aldridge is Rookie 8; yes you read that right...@LilyAldridge: VS Angel and now a Swimsuit Goddess!'

Lily may be making her debut in the Swimsuit special, but she already has a huge fanbase thanks to her role representing Victoria's Secret.

The 28-year-old certainly is used to posing in her smalls. She has been working for the brand since 2010 and is a staple of their shows.

Joining Lily in this year's Sports Illustrated are no less than 11 other 'rookies'.

Joining Lily in this year's Sports Illustrated are no less than 11 other 'rookies'.

The huge number of new faces marks the 50th anniversary of the annual edition, which was started by a magazine as a way to brighten up the slow winter months.

Among the other new faces are Gigi Hadid, whose former model mother Yolanda Foster is a staple of the Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills, and Emily Ratajkowski, who starred in Robin Thicke's controversial Blurred Lines video.

But while the magazine has previewed it's new faces, one thing has yet to be revealed - the covergirl.

As ever she remains a hotly guarded secret, so much so that even photographers aren't told if they are shooting the image.  

Despite this secrecy, last year's big news was revealed early - when a leaked copy of the magazine cover featuring Kate Upton was posted online three days before the big reveal.  

Editors are sure to be taking steps to ensure that there is no repeat of the leak this year.
